"No refusal" laws will be enforced this Labor Day weekend

"No refusal" laws will be enforced this Labor Day weekend

It will no doubt be a busy holiday weekend for people traveling and attending Labor Day weekend parties, and a couple counties in East Tennessee will be cracking down on drunk driving.

Roane, Campbell and Jefferson counties will add patrols on Labor Day weekend to enforce the state's new "no refusal" law.

The law took effect in July. It allows authorities to get a search warrant for a blood sample, even if the driver refuses to take a breathalyzer test.

In total, 16 counties state-wide will be participating this weekend.

Work at scene of I-40 rockslide finished

After months of construction, work on the I-40 rockslide in Cocke County is complete.

Last winter, a rockslide shut down the westbound lanes of I-40 in Cocke County, close to the Tennessee-North Carolina state line.  Eventually, one lane was reopened for traffic.

In recent weeks, TDOT got both lanes open, but there were still barriers around the rock slide.
