Mother, daughter team up to bring the holiday spirit back to Newport

Pumpkins, mums and corn stalks adorn poles, steps and sidewalks across the city.

"It's a community which, you know everybody here, and you have the familiar faces," said Kellye Stokely, a lifelong resident. "It is a friendly town."

Gov. Haslam announces grants for parks, communities

Monday afternoon, Governor Bill Haslam was in East Tennessee to announce which parks and communities could be getting some additional help for community projects.

He visited the Oliver Springs City Hall to hand out community development grants and local parks and recreation grants.

Among the lucky recipients, Oliver Springs and Lenoir City both received $500,000 for water or sewer system improvements. Cocke County got nearly the same amount for a water line extension, and Clinton received $339,000 for housing rehabilitation.
