Ken Sparks gets 300th win for Carson-Newman

It was a landmark achievement for a longtime East Tennessee football coach.

Ken Sparks has been head coach at Carson-Newman College for 32 years.

Sparks said his football career began with a promise to God to be the best coach he could be.

And Thursday night, he reached a major milestone with his 300th win. The Eagles won 56-46 over Glenville State.

Sparks celebrated with his team on the field with prayer and of course a game ball.

He was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer but has said he won't let it stop him from coaching.

A Greene County 14-year-old is making hunting history. She will be the first youth ever to participate in a Tennessee elk hunt this fall.

State officials randomly drew Jessica Parkins' name out of a poll of nearly 300 teenage applicants, and she's no hunting rookie.

The high school freshman says she's been hunting with her dad since she was seven years old.

"My first big proud moment was when I killed my first deer. I was just running around everywhere. I had adrenaline pumping through me. It was awesome," she said.

This summer, Jeff Joslin made it to the big screen.

"I play Tyler Perry's boss. I'm a federal prosecutor."

You could say he's come a long way from Cedar Bluff Elementary.

"We did the play "Rumpelstiltskin" and I had one line."

That was Joslin's first brush with acting, but, back then, he was more interested in sports.

"At age 6, I started playing football and that's all I wanted to do. I wanted to be a professional athlete."
