It was a landmark achievement for a longtime East Tennessee football coach.

Ken Sparks has been head coach at Carson-Newman College for 32 years.

Sparks said his football career began with a promise to God to be the best coach he could be.

And Thursday night, he reached a major milestone with his 300th win. The Eagles won 56-46 over Glenville State.

Sparks celebrated with his team on the field with prayer and of course a game ball.

He was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer but has said he won't let it stop him from coaching.

As for his three-decade-long career, Sparks says he's learned a lot, including how to keep his priorities straight.

"You've gotta make sure you know who the real audience is that you need to play to, so as a believer in Christ my emphasis is to coach for his sake," Sparks said.

Coach Sparks says 300 isn't really an important number to him. He says he measures his value as a coach in terms of the lessons he's taught his team.

When they leave his field, he wants his kids to be better football players, and also people.

As for what else Sparks is planning to celebrate his big win, he says the only thing on his agenda is prepping for the next game.
