Fire destroys dozens of carts, supplies at a New Market golf course


(WBIR) Fire completely destroyed a large golf cart shed and many items inside at Lost Creek Golf Course Sunday night, according to Sammy Solomon with the New Market Volunteer Fire Department.

Couple accused of leaving dogs to starve in abandoned home

A Newport couple is facing charges after officers found a dead dog and two others that appeared to be malnourished inside their rental home.

April and James Hux are charged with animal cruelty.

Their landlord called police Sunday after discovering the dogs. He told authorities that the couple had not paid their rent in several months, and he assumed they had abandoned the home on Lakeview Street. The electricity had been shut off at least three weeks earlier, and he hadn't seen either of them for a while.

Tennova adds Lakeway Regional to group of hospitals

(WBIR - Morristown) Lakeway Regional Hospital will become the newest member of the Tennova Healthcare family.

The hospital group made the announcement Monday. Lakeway Regional will be Tennova's seventh location, and will officially join the group Wednesday September 24.

Lakeway Regional Hospital is a 135-bedroom facility and provides inpatient and outpatient services, as well as a 24-hour acute care rehabilitation center.

New motorcycle event helps fight cancer

A new event in Jefferson City hopes to raise money for a cancer support group this weekend.

On Saturday, the inaugural Kickstands-Up Against Cancer will start at 9:30 a.m. at the Lowe's in Jefferson City. The event features a ride, live music, auctions and food.

All proceeds benefit Celebrate Life, which helps patients battling cancer in Sevier, Jefferson, and Cocke counties.
