All lanes of I-40 back open after fiery crash

All lanes of Interstate 40 are back open after a fiery crash Wednesday afternoon blocked westbound traffic for miles.

The crash, which happened just after noon, blocked all but one lane at mile marker 418 in Dandridge. Traffic was backed up past the I-81 split.

Talbott man charged in string of car thefts

A Talbott man has been arrested in a string of auto thefts.

Hamblen County Sheriff's Office charged Robert Larry Chappell, 27, for 10 counts of auto burglary among other charges.

Deputies arrested him Saturday at home on Brooks Drive in Talbott. They said Chappell confessed to breaking into several cars and walking around in the middle of the night searching for unlocked cars.

Newport 'Paints Town Pink' for breast cancer awareness

Tennova Medical Center in Newport turned the courthouse lawn pink to show its support for breast cancer awareness.

Dozens of people packed into the lawn to listen to live music and donate breast cancer research as part of the "Paint the Town Pink" campaign. Business throughout Newport also took part in the event, putting up signs in their windows to support the cause.

Spencer Thomas, Newport Medical Center CEO, said the event has a number of benefits.

Drug raid finds several guns, more than a pound of marijuana

(WBIR) A drug raid in Cocke County turned up several guns, drug paraphernalia, and more than one pound of marijuana on Monday.

According to Cocke County Sheriff Armondo Fontes, narcotic agents went Monday to the home of Donald Williams on the 200 block of Shiloh Road over drug activity concerns.

Authorities searched the home and seized scales, packaging material, 1.28 pounds of marijuana, four rifles, a shotgun and a pistol.

Cocke Co. men cited for ginseng poaching

Three Cocke County men are accused of poaching ginseng inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Park rangers cited Danny Grooms, Robert Goben Jr, and Ryan Stieman for digging ginseng.

Wild American ginseng is native to the park. The roots are popular in Asian markets and can sell for hundreds of dollars. Dried ginseng roots are used in medicines, teas, and other health products.

Plans in gear to develop Dandridge waterfront
