Morristown Police training new K-9 officer

(WBIR-MORRISTOWN) The Morristown Police Department has a new officer on the force.
The department is in the process of certifying its newest K9 member, a 20-month-old Belgian Malinois, which will be assigned to Cpl. Pete Shockley. Cpl. Shockley, a 17-year veteran of the department, has been a successful part of the K9 unit since 2003. Once the new dog is fully trained, Cpl. Shockley’s current partner, Mako, will be retired.
The K-9 will be trained on narcotic odor detection, off and on leash obedience, area searches, building searches, tracking, officer protection, and criminal apprehension-a process which can take three to four months.
The MPD K9 Unit consists of five full-time K9s and their handlers.
