Deputies arrested a Hamblen County man accused of trying to hire a person to murder his ex-wife.

Authorities arrested Thomas Michael Smith, 33, of Morristown at the Days Inn on East Andrew Highway on Thursday and charged him with conspiracy to commit murder.

Officials said Smith was upset with his ex-wife and was willing to pay several thousand dollars to have his wife killed. According to a Hamblen County Sheriff's Office release, Smith met with a person multiple times, thinking he was hiring him to kill his ex-wife.

Smith's arraignment is scheduled for Friday morning. Smith doesn't have a prior criminal record.
