Cocke Co woman accused of trying to put a hit on husband
News

(WBIR - Cocke County) A Cocke County woman is in jail, accused of trying to hire a hitman to kill her husband.

Aleshia Hope Stuart and Michael Dale Keller appeared in federal court Friday morning.

Court documents show that Stuart and Keller planned to kill Stuart's husband. On January 26, Keller spoke with who he thought was a middle-man to find a contracted killer, and agreed on a meeting place. The middle-man ended up working for the FBI.

The records show the next day, Keller met with the person he planned to hire to kill Stuart's husband. Unbeknownst to him, that person was an undercover FBI agent. Keller told the agent he was helping Stuart because she had promised to sign over a $90,000 life insurance policy to him if he helped arrange the murder.

On January 29, Keller agreed to help law enforcement by recording his phone call with Stuart. He told her the hitman needed more collateral to carry out the job. She agreed to use a ring with a gemstone and told Keller she would meet with him at the exchange.

On her way to the meeting, officers pulled her over, found the ring she planned to use as collateral, and arrested her.
