Carson-Newman University announced Tuesday plans to offer an associate degree program to help students take part in the Tennessee Promise initiative.

The university will offer a new Associate of Arts degree in liberal studies to target high school graduates looking for more affordable education options.

"We want students to know that when they are accepted at Carson-Newman, and qualify for Tennessee Promise, the amount they could receive is equal to the cost of tuition at a Tennessee community college," wrote Dr. Paul Percy, dean of Academic Affairs, in press release.

The new option will alow students to transfer seamlessly into Carson-Newman's four-year, undergraduate program.
