Hamblen Co. officials arrest dozens in drug roundup | News
Hamblen County Sheriff's Department said it arrested dozens of people Saturday, during a drug roundup called "Operation Pills Kill."
Officials said the operation ended an undercover investigation, which included nearly 190 indictments against 60 people.
Sheriff Esco Jarnigan said he expected to arrest most of the suspects Saturday. He said authorities closed down the current operation to begin a new undercover investigation.
Jarnigan said the mission of "Operation Pills Kill" was prevention.
"It's not necessarily how much we got off the streets today, as how much we will prevent from coming onto the streets by having these people in custody," said Jarnigan. "I do not know the exact amount of drugs we have taken today."
Jarnigan said drug abuse is the number one killer for people younger than 65 in Hamblen County. He said his department is trying to use all its manpower to slow down the current drug problem in that county.
