The Sweltering Ballerina

As hard as it is to believe, it's almost Christmas time.  Forget the fact that the weather (as a warm 70 degrees) doesn't reflect this very well.  Many of us Moms (and Dads) have spent the last 4+ months preparing for Christmas ballet performances.  Having weathered (pun intended) auditions, rehearsals, fund-raisers and costume fittings, we are now almost ready for opening night of the Downtown Dance Theater's annual production of The Nutcracker on December 20-22 at Walters State Community College.  The only problem is, it doesn't FEEL like Christmas.  The calendar tells us clearly that December 25 is drawing ever closer.  Our Elf on the Shelf Farley has taken his place daily to keep an eye on the kiddos.  What's left of the Christmas tree is trimmed (thank you new puppy) and the decorations are ready to make their debut in our yard.  All of this screams Christmas, but we are playing outside in shorts.  I write this for two reasons.  After much preparation our dancers are eager to showcase their talents and hard work and I am extremely proud and impressed with the calibur of their performance so please follow us facebook www.facebook.com/downtowndancetheater or go to www.DowntownDanceTheater,org and come to Walters State for a fabulous show.  Secondly, remember that even though it doesn't feel like Christmas just yet, many groups have prepared special Christmas performances and they would love to have support-even if you wear shorts!

Newport paints the town pink to support breast cancer awareness

When it comes to painting the town, Newport chose pink instead of red on Wednesday. It's their special way of showing support for those diagnosed with breast cancer.

Dozens of people turned out in front of the Cocke County Courthouse wearing their pink proudly.

Tennova Healthcare teamed up with the city and county and local businesses in an effort to raise awareness of the disease. A balloon release and the turnout was more than enough to life the spirit of survivors.
