Emerald Ash Borer found in Jefferson County

A tree-destroying insect has popped up in another East Tennessee county and has spread to other parts of the state.

Officials have discovered Emerald Ash Borer in Jefferson County, and for the first time, they found the bug in Middle Tennessee in Smith County.

State officials say finding the insect in Smith County is concerning because it's far from the already quarantined areas of East Tennessee.

Smith and Jefferson counties will now be added to the quarantine, which already includes many of our area counties.

State officials say the best way to stop the spread of the disease is to stop moving firewood.
