Greene Co. infant death ruled homicide

According to an incident report from the Greene County Sheriff's Department, an ambulance responded to an address on Fairview Road in Afton on September 17.

Eight-month-old Abby Leann Jennings of Greene County was having trouble breathing and her pupils were unresponsive.

The report said medical staff found various stages of bruising and a possible bite mark on the infant's body.  A detective responded to Laughlin Memorial Hospital in Greeneville to investigate.

The infant was later transported to a hospital in Johnson City where she died on September 19.

Newport officers arrest two men for trying to steal grease

Newport Police said it arrested two men after they were caught trying to steal grease from Newport restaurants.

Officials said the men are involved in a grease business out of South Carolina.  According to Newport Police, the two suspects came to East Tennessee to find oil they could take and sell.

Officers said they saw the two men circling a couple restaurants for grease pits early this morning.

White Pine murder suspect arrested in New Jersey

A police stop in New Jersey led to the arrest of an East Tennessee fugitive.

Officers stopped a trucker suspected of not paying a toll on the George Washington Bridge on Thursday.

The passenger in the truck was 52-year-old Charles Kelley. He's a person of interest in the murder of a Jefferson County man back in May.

The murder happened just outside White Pine. A neighbor found 47-year-old Johnny Arwood dead and wrapped in a blanket.

Kelley is also wanted for forgery and theft charges.

Elizabeth Smart to speak in East Tennessee

Elizabeth Smart to speak in East Tennessee

The survivor of one of the most followed child abduction cases in recent history will be in East Tennessee Tuesday.

Elizabeth Smart will be the featured speaker at Lakeway Regional Hospital's Healthy Woman event.

Smart was in the Volunteer State last month for an event to bring home missing West Tennessee woman, Holly Bobo.

Tuesday's event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Fountain Plaza in Morristown.

21 people indicted on meth charges in Greeneville

21 people indicted on meth charges in Greeneville

A federal grand jury in Greeneville has indicted 21 people on meth charges following a multi-agency investigation.

The investigation targeted meth-making rings in Northeast Tennessee.

Local, state, and federal law enforcement agents executed arrest warrants early Monday morning. Officials expect more arrests to be made.

If convicted, those charged could face several years in prison and tens of thousands of dollars in fines.

Calif. man wanted for murder arrested in Jefferson Co.

An accused murderer is in custody here in East Tennessee, well over 2,000 miles away from where police say he killed a man.

Troopers arrested 20-year-old Taylor Henthorne over the weekend in Jefferson County.

A report shows he crashed into a ditch along State Highway 113, then tried to run from officers.

Henthorne is wanted for a murder in California.

On top of that, he's also facing several charges here including DUI.

Trial date set for man accused of killing his police officer father

A Greene County man accused of killing his police officer father knows when he'll face a jury.

Ethan Self is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 46-year-old Roger Self in March of 2010. His trial is now set for January.

Roger Self was a sergeant with the Greeneville Police Department.

According to authorities, Ethan Self used his father's gun to kill him while he slept on a couch.

He was an 18-year-old high school senior at the time.
