Newport takes step to clean up historic building

Newport takes step to clean up historic building

A historic East Tennessee building damaged by the April 27 storms of 2011 may be one step closer to re-opening.

The Tanner Building opened in Newport in 1924. The building, which was first a schoolhouse for the county's black children during the days of segregation, housed eight non-profit groups before it was closed two years ago.

A tornado from the April storms lifted a corner of the building, letting water in, and subsequently creating a mold problem.

Newport paints the town pink to support breast cancer awareness

When it comes to painting the town, Newport chose pink instead of red on Wednesday. It's their special way of showing support for those diagnosed with breast cancer.

Dozens of people turned out in front of the Cocke County Courthouse wearing their pink proudly.

Tennova Healthcare teamed up with the city and county and local businesses in an effort to raise awareness of the disease. A balloon release and the turnout was more than enough to life the spirit of survivors.

Morristown football crowd breaks out in "Call Me Maybe" flash mob

It was a big night Friday for football in Morristown as the city's East high school visited the West for an annual rivalry game, and there was a memorable moment before the game even got started.

Students gathered in hopes of breaking the record for the biggest flash mob in Tennessee.

Flash mobs are large groups that show up in one place, often to sing or dance, after the idea spreads on social media.
