Cocke County deputies arrested a man after officials found a dead dog on his property.

A local animal shelter asked deputies to check on several dogs at a home on Old 15th Road in Del Rio Wednesday afternoon.

S.C. man killed, children injured in I-40 crash

A Greenville, S.C., man was killed and two children injured early Monday when their vehicle veered off Interstate 40, went airborne and crashed in Cocke County.

Neither of the children, 5-year-old Riley Hartman and 4-year-old Mason Hartman, also of Greenville, were secured in child restraint devices as required by state law, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report by Trooper Eric Raines.

Authorities identified the deceased driver as Scott R. Hartman, 37. Hartman was not wearing a seat belt.

No one hurt in fire at Newport manufacturing building

No one was hurt but a Newport business was heavily damaged after a fire Wednesday morning.

American Appliance is located on Chemwood Drive. The business manufactures oven racks and employees 80 to 100 people.

Fire reported at Newport business

Firefighters have responded to a business fire in Newport late Wednesday morning.

Cocke County dispatch took a call at 11:41 a.m., reporting a fire at the American Appliance on Chemwood Drive.

Newport City, Cocke County, and several volunteer fire departments were sent to the scene.

Bail bondsman accused of trading sex, drugs for bond

A Greene County bail bondsman is accused of trading sex and drugs for bond.

The Third Judicial District Drug and Violent Crime Task Force arrested Henry Martin on Monday.

Authorities said Martin is the owner of South Greene Bonding Company. The task force launched an investigation into Martin after receiving several complaints that he was acting inappropriately and may be involved in criminal activity.

Investigators found Martin traded sex and drugs for uncovered bond.
